A major setback for Roger Federer as the latest ATP rankings unranked him for the first time in 25 years. Ever since his debut at the age of 16, the tennis star had always appeared in the singles rankings and held the record for most time at No.1, earning him the legendary title. The ATP rankings take into account points accrued over the previous 52 weeks and since Federer has not played any game since last year's Wimbledon, he dropped out of the list. He was ranked 97th before this year's Wimbledon began. The 40-year-old's last appearance was his Wimbledon quarter-final defeat to Hubert Hurkacz in 2021. Shortly after that match, the tennis champ underwent knee surgery in 18 months. However, Federer made an appearance at Centre Court during Wimbledon's centenary celebrations and noted that he hopes to play at the tournament at least one more time. The Swiss player, regarded as the GOAT, has enjoyed an illustrious career by winning 20 Grand Slam titles. He reportedly hopes to play at Basel Open 2022, which is slated to be held in October.
