Podar Hospital for COVID-19 patientshttp://photogallery.indiatimes.com/articleshow/76911941.cmsMirza Samnani is passionate about robots. He owns a small and medium enterprise Ignite Labs, which has won seven awards in just three years. The founder and research lead of Ignite Labs has also represented India at NASA building Space Rovers and Underwater ROVs. Mirza, with his team, designed a robotic trolley 'Gollar', named after health officer Devendra Golhar. This robotic trolley carries food and medicines for patients recovering from COVID-19, and also helps the health care staff to maintain their distance. "When we started giving the demos initially, the response was good but slow. However, they realised that the cost of the robotic trolley is far less compared to PPEs and limited biohazard wastes. 'Gollar' can optionally disinfect surfaces by spraying disinfectant too. Mirza is working round the clock during the lockdown, from wearing a PPE inside an isolation ward to field trials. In July 2020, they deployed the first robot at M. A. Podar Hospital in Worli, Mumbai. Shri Uddhav Thackeray Aaditya Thackeray inaugurated the Gollar on July 7th, 2020. When asked what's next, "The next robot which will be deployed at NSCI dome and racecourse centres will feature remote patient testing and patient-doctor interaction too", said Mirza. This 23-year-old mechatronics engineer is hopeful about the future in the field of robots, "India lacks infrastructure for more advance robots, but soon we will see advancements in all types of robots."
