At least 37 people were killed after the torrential rains unleashed floods in eastern Kentucky. In a very short span of time, the floodwater submerged the entire area, forcing many residents to climb up the rooftops to save their lives. Authorities launched a rescue operation and airlifted many residents. According to a report, the residents had been unprepared for a heavy downpour overnight that resulted in more deaths. "It is a continuing natural disaster. We are still searching for people," an official said. A government official said that some homes in the hardest-hit areas were swept away by the flood. There are many video clips doing the round in which rescue teams can be seen guiding motor boats through residential and commercial areas searching for victims. Knott Country area alone witnessed at least 16 deaths. The bodies of four children, between the ages of 18 months and eight years, were recovered. A fast current had swept them out of their parent's grip, a family member told.
