The flood situation has worsened in India and Bangladesh as more people lost their lives, taking the death toll to over 100. In India's Assam state, around 48 lakh people are affected in 32 of the state's 34 districts. The national and state agencies have evacuated thousands of people from flood-hit areas. According to media reports, a total of 2,31,819 people are staying in the 810 relief camps while over 1,13,485 hectares of crops have been damaged. The water in five rivers -- Brahmaputra, Kopili, Beki, Pagladiya, Puthimari -- is flowing above the danger level at several places. In Bangladesh, Md Kamrul Hasan, who is a secretary in Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief, said that tens of thousands of policemen, Bangladesh Army soldiers and emergency service staff members have been deployed in parts of the country to assist search and rescue efforts. "Bangladesh Army soldiers have already been deployed as floods devastated the north-eastern districts of Sunamganj and Sylhet," he said.
