The harvest festival of Pongal is being celebrated with gusto in Tamil Nadu. Enthusiasts also organised the famous bull-taming sport, Jallikattu on this occasion. People from all walks of life dressed up in traditional attire and prepared the sweet dish Pongal to welcome the auspicious Tamil month 'Thai'. Women also draw colourful 'kolams' (rangoli) in front of their homes. Devotees take part in the prayers seeking divine blessings for a good year ahead are also organised. As Assembly elections are drawing nearer in Tamil Nadu, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat, BJP President JP Nadda, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi also took part in the Pongal celebrations in the state. In a big bonanza, the Tamil Nadu government had earlier announced and provided Rs 2,500 as Pongal gift to the people in the wake of the coronavirus-induced lockdown, besides a kit that included rice, required to make the sweet dish Pongal.
