The 341-kilometre long Purvanchal Expressway was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Uttar Pradesh. He slammed the previous government for not working on development projects. He also accused that most of the opposition leaders were busy in appeasement politics. PM Modi showered kudos to UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for the state's progress under his leadership. "Three years ago, when I laid the foundation stone of this expressway, there was just plain land here and today, we have this modern expressway where I have landed in an aircraft," he said. PM Modi also said that the expressway would help in the industrial development of the state. "The Purvanchal Expressway has now become one more power for the Indian Air Force in cases of emergency. Our fighter planes can land on the expressway," he said. Following the inauguration of the expressway, a scintillating air show was held at the venue.
