Dangerously thin star Eugenia Cooney's promotes eating disorders, while social media users sign a petition to ban her

The 26-year-old American internet influencer Eugenia Cooney, who has more than two million followers across social media platforms, began her YouTube channel on June 17, 2011. She uploads vlogs, shopping videos, makeup tutorials and also talks about mental health. Since 2015, Eugenia was targeted by social media users about her weight loss, which became a serious issue. Jaclyn Glenn, David Michael Frank and Evangeline DeMuro staged an intervention by inviting both Cooney and the Los Angeles Psychiatric Evaluation Team (PET) to Jaclyn Glenn's residence. After the PET interviewed Cooney, the team placed a 5150 (72-hour psychiatric hold for assessment of mental and physical health) hold on Cooney under the Lanterman–Petris–Short Act and took her into rehab. To this, Eugenia's mother screamed and swore at Glenn over the phone. She called the police in an attempt to have Glenn arrested for kidnapping. Glenn believes that Cooney is in danger and at a very high risk of relapse since she is back with her mother. Whereas Eugenia commented on her experience with being placed under a 5150 hold, describing it as frightening. Apparently, Eugenia was hospitalised for Anorexia Nervosa, which is a deadly eating disorder with the highest mortality rate of any mental illness. Several social media users took to Change.org to sign the petition titled 'Remove Eugenia Cooney from YouTube, Twitch, Instagram and Twitter,' as they fear that Eugenia will pass away before receiving treatment.
