Daughter of Andy Garcia, Alessandra is a plus-size model who plans to break boundaries in fashion

Alessandra Garcia-Lorido, the daughter of 'The Godfather' fame Andy Garcia, does find it hard to get more assignments compared to the thin models. "Casting is always really crazy because, for other curve models and me, we're in this new world that we're trying to break through and create more diversity in fashion. Do they even want us here? Are we wasting our time? It's a weird conversation that I have a lot with my fellow models. It all sounds great to diversify the runway, and I think that is what the future will be, but it's tiring. It's hard work to persevere through the judgments and the eyes. I've been on castings before where people are looking at you, and you're like,‘Okay, am I a spectacle here?'" Garcia-Lorido grew up in Los Angeles with two older sisters and a younger brother. She spent some of her youth in Miami before moving to New York for college to pursue a career in film producing. It was inevitable for her to join movies, as both her parents are in the same line. But destiny had some other plans for her, she signed up with IMG Models and worked on catalogue gigs with brands like Lane Bryant and Target. Alessandra remains hopeful about the future, she believes, "There's a movement going on for sure, but I think it's still not at that point yet where we feel comfortable in the industry, especially on the runway." Alessandra is convinced that runway is the "last frontier" of accepting diverse talent where clothes, styles and trends are showcased first. And to shape the image of beauty and fashion, the runway should feature models of different colours, heights, sizes and ages that are cool and fashionable and trendy.
